Sanjay Arwade, Ph.D.

_

Sanjay Arwade is Principal Engineer at NBM Technologies, Inc. and Professor at University of Massachusetts Amherst. He supervises projects and provides overall guidance for work that involves advanced cellular materials or which exhibits randomness at the microstructure / mesostructure. An example is metal foam. Previously, Sanjay was Chair of the committee with the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) that spearheads activities related to quantifying uncertainty (2013-2014). These are broadly known as probabilistic mechanics. Over the past decade at University of Massachusetts Amherst and in a prior professorship at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) (2002-2014), Sanjay has developed expertise in building system reliability, structural components for offshore wind energy, and engineering mechanics when large or important uncertainties are present. More recently, Sanjay has studied renewable building materials like bamboo, wood, and composite wood.
