Cristopher Moen, Ph.D., P.E._
Cris Moen is President of NBM Technologies, Inc., a company launched in 2013 to link civil and aerospace engineering industries to academic research and tools. He is an enthusiastic educator and researcher with interests and expertise in structural stability, simulation, testing, and design of materials and systems developed during his work as a bridge engineer at J. Muller International (1997-2002) and Parsons Corporation (2002-2004), his PhD at Johns Hopkins University (2004-2008), and his tenure as an Associate Professor at Virginia Tech (2008-2016). His numerous papers on the mechanics of ductile and brittle materials, the behavior of thin-walled structures, and the system reliability of civil infrastructure earn him the trust of colleagues and business contacts on multiple continents.
Cris motivates upcoming engineering talent to make connections to technology and design through his work as Chairman of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) Student Competition and as Executive Committee Member of the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC). Cris is also active in the associations that write the North American standards for the structural design of cold-formed steel framing and which report on the emerging use of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC). He is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and in addition to leading NBM, continues to teach and conduct research part-time at JHU.
