Brooks Smith, P.E._
Brooks is a Project Engineer at NBM Technologies, Inc. and Research Fellow for University of Massachusetts Amherst. His numerous publications on steel foam puts him in a small, growing group of engineers worldwide who are knowledgeable about this structural material. Brooks’ history includes work as a research engineer in Australia and as a forensic engineer for Whitlock, Dalrymple, Poston & Associates in New York City. His research expertise extends to new materials, advanced structural analysis, repair of existing structures, forensic engineering, remediation engineering, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), computer vision, computer programming, and the system reliability of mid-rise cold-formed steel buildings and their roof trusses. Brooks is also interested in microstructural simulation, structural rehabilitation, historic structures and humanitarian work.
His affiliations include memberships with Engineers Without Borders (EWB), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Engineers Australia (EA), and the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI). Brooks resides in Hong Kong and has recently applied for an engineering license there with the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE). He is currently licensed as a professional engineer in Australia, New Zealand, and Texas.
