Vahid Meimand Assumes New Role

Promoted to Principal Engineer and Infrastructure Sector Lead

NBM Technologies, a structural engineering company that provides academic research and tools for industrial partners, announces that Dr. Vahid Meimand has been promoted to Principal Engineer and Infrastructure Sector Lead. The new positions in the company became effective June 1 and formalize responsibilities to lead new and existing business in the infrastructure sector.

One of its earliest employees, Meimand joined NBM as Senior Engineer in 2013, and has contributed his engineering talent and thoughtful management skills to most of its projects since then. His Ph.D. dissertation from Johns Hopkins University advanced understanding of manufacturing imperfections in thin-walled steel members. This project established his expertise in physics-based simulation and structural reliability, which Meimand skillfully uses in client problems ranging from computer vision to analysis automation and optimization.

“Dr. Meimand has come up through the ranks of NBM, and with his research pedigree and experience in new technologies has established himself as an innovator and problem-solver,” said NBM Technologies CEO Cristopher Moen. “Along with his passion and curiosity, he is an outstanding choice to lead the expansion of an important sector for us: automation of infrastructure assessment. Our processes and algorithms continue to evolve and serve our infrastructure clients.”

In his new role, Meimand will focus on expanding NBM services in technology-driven inspections of infrastructure. Under his direction, the company optimized a process for converting electro-optical imagery of bridges into 3D models. The status of this work now enables algorithms for automated measuring and feature detection, artificial-intelligence services conducive to the next era of human-based inspections. NBM envisions these functions benefiting maintenance teams by improving the safety, speed, and reach of their monitoring.
